I’m a Chinese teacher to foreigners with 16 years of experience. I began practicing Chinese calligraphy as a child and studied with a teacher at Beijing Normal University for three years.

隶书Lìshū was the beginning of the modern Chinese writing system, so it’s a very important style of Chinese characters. 《曹全碑》Cáo Quán Bēi Cao Quan Stone Tablet is a classic artwork written in 隶书Lìshū. It’s a Stone tablet from the Han dynasty (185 AD), which recorded the stories of Cao Quan, a good official at that time.
This is an art lesson designed for beginners who would like to know some basic knowledge about Chinese painting. In this course, Master Dèng Mèngjié will share with you how to paint the peony flower, which is also what she is famous for. In Chinese culture, the Peony flower symbolizes noble, rich, and elegant.
Chinese calligraphy is an art based on the Chinese characters. It includes various different styles,with 篆书zhuànshū，隶书lìshū, 楷书 kǎishū, 行书xíngshū, 草书cǎoshū as the top five styles.
According to painting methods, Chinese painting is divided into two categories: fine brush painting 工笔画 Gōngbǐhuà and freehand brushwork 写意画Xiěyìhuà .
笔bǐ brush, 墨mò ink, 纸zhǐ paper, 砚 yàn ink stone are the 4 basic tools for practicing Chinese calligraphy and painting, which are also considered as the Four Treasures of the Study in China.
