The traditional Chinese painting colors (中国画颜料zhōngguóhuà yánliào ) are made from minerals and plants. The permeability of plant colors are quite good, while mineral colors are not easy to permeate. Nowadays we also use some chemical colors in Chinese painting. I take the most common used 12 colors as an example:
